Welcome to Ms. Geer's 4th Grade
Hello families, students, and fellow teachers! I'm glad you are taking the time to come and check out our classroom's website. On this website, you can find tabs for all of our day to day activities as well as other important information. All day, our room is constantly moving and grooving, so capturing pictures and videos is the best way to show you what a day in the life of a 4th grader is like. So please, look around the site and check back frequently for more updates to come!

We are currently taking a few weeks to review all of our previous units and make sure we feel confident in all of the topics. Decimals were hard for many of us to remember, so we will be working closely with them for a few days, then continuing on in our review packets. These packets help us work through all different ideas, such as: measuring, multi digit multiplication, geometry, addition and subtraction, and more.
Unit (Social Studies/ Science)We have just transitioned into our newest social studies unit.... The 13 Colonies. We started our year with a beautiful song that I remember all families loving that went a little something like "50 nifty United States from 13 original colonies..." (too soon?). Well, hopefully that song has helped us remember our states, and will help us discover which states actually started out as colonies. We are going to take the journey of understanding why people decided to move to these unknown places, what life was like, and what the struggles were that eventually lead those colonies to becoming states of their own!

For the month of March, we will be working on comprehension through leveled reading packets with questions. These packets will allow students to work at their own pace with 0 competition. We will also be using ESpark to work on finding main ideas, summarizing, looking back for details, and more. Your student is encouraged to use ESpark at home. If you have questions about their log in credentials, please email me and I can send them your way.
WritingIn writing, we're working on our information writing unit. Students are each researching their own famous person and doing a great job finding the main/ important facts. Students will slowly be building their biographies over time with multiple drafts of pages along the way. Students are encouraged to look for information as part of their homework each night. Students are currently looking into their famous person's educational background or training history, and working toward developing a paragraph about their person's importance in history.
